Re: Rear Exit or Turn Down Exhaust Tips.

I only use exhaust all the way out the back. Anything less and you get exhaust in the car while your sitting in traffic. I used to run turn downs on some of my cars and people always complained about smelling like exhaust when they got out of the cars. And they were right.

Mine is very similar. Can't tell by the pic, but mine comes out just under the lower valence and turns just like that.

Re: Rear Exit or Turn Down Exhaust Tips.

The Flowmaster Exhaust System I'm talking about is the American Thunder 2 1/2 inch. The pipes go all the way out back and end close to the bumper. I will post pics Weds. The kit gives you both.

Brian,
I would think that would be considered stock exhaust location.

Re: Rear Exit or Turn Down Exhaust Tips.

The 66 looks good with turndowns just before the bumper.

I have one car with straight back tips and one with nothing after the Flows. Overall, straight back looks simpler and more performance oriented.

Side exhausts, side exit or turned down, seem to draw the law. And every Cobra owner I know has a burned leg from them, and a mad wife, because she also burned her leg.

Note, that on trucks, you do not want straight out the back, because that's where you stand when you hook up a trailer.

Dude 67,

You can always use the band clmps from Jegs for $12 each and change them as the mood strikes

Ok, Here's the pics. Tell me what you think. I'm leaning towards the strait out back style.

SWEET ride you have there! I thought all '64-5-6-7-8 had turn downs from the factory, Elkys had 'em by the back of the rear wheels and '69-72 had straight w/ oval tips. I had side exit pipes on my '76 and it would melt the snow off your tires! One benifit of dumping it before the rear wheels. I have straight w/ factory tips now, had turn downs w/ chrome tip before they rusted out. Sounds about the same , but no more dust spray from the ground w/ straight tips.
