1969 SS396 ragtop build

If this is like all the other forums I'm sure you all will like pics, so here goes,

Picking it up from the owner who just sold it to my customer. It's there on the right beside a 1964 Vette and a '68 Camaro.

Backing up to load the engine in the truck,

All loaded up,

Getting it ready to move,

This guy has a lot of stuff lol!

Nice 72 SS396 waiting a rebirth,

Out into the sunlight!

Strapping 'er down,

Ready to start the trip home,

3 hours later we are back at the shop

Next order of business is to assess all the parts, see what's missing or needs replacement and then bring this bad boy back to life.

Thanks for following!

cheers

...and PLEASE paint that core support and bumper filler panel black like they're supposed to be - NOT body color.

One of my biggest pet peeves.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for that info! Is there an authenticity manual or similar to find all these colours. Like are the front inner fenders semi gloss or gloss?

Cheers

Thanks, Mike! Apparently I don't have the new website set to send me email notifications of responses.

Looking forward to seeing the results of your restoration, Rick!

Re: 1969 SS396 ragtop build

Well got some work done to the Chevelle.

Started stripping the front clip off,

Since it's not getting paint the panels were hung up out of harms way,

Got to work stripping the interior,

After sooo many years sitting idle in a garage I had to mask up, rodent feces and urine and some decomposition of an unknown creature just to name a few odours.

Under the drivers seat,

Remember when McDonalds straws looked like this?

Over all not too bad, some minor corrosion issues to deal with.

cheers

Yep, that's a critter-created mess!

Looks like somebody got pretty careless shooting that color! Firewall and cowl should be black. Hood hinges and springs should be gray phosphate.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: 1969 SS396 ragtop build

Got some investigative work done on the body shell. There was some bubbling here and there but it looks like it comes down to bad prep done by the last fella that painted this car.

The entire bottom of the car was poorly prepped, we shall fix!

The drivers side fender was in pretty good shape,

Hood was good as well,

Passenger side was terrible, he had plugged the antennae hole with a metal disc (not welded in) and covered with bondo. We welded it up correctly, and the trim holes on the front were just covered over with bondo, these were filled as well. So were the wheel well molding holes as this car doesn't have those.

The rear cowl was filled in with weld, this should have a body seam right?

Upper left corner of the trunk opening, need to fix this crack.

Getting the frame all fixed up and ready for epoxy,

Just filling in the rust dimples with metal filler,

cheers
