My manual does not show this detail.
Does anyone have pics from a correct car or a link to this info?

I am not sure about 71 specifically but most Chevelles have at least three ground straps..one from each valve cover to the firewall and one from the firewall to the frame(on pass side near bottom of firewall) hope this helps.

PS there is a nice drawing of the ground straps and their location in both my 69 and 70 assembly manuals.

Just as a point of interest, my 70 had NO ground straps when I purchased it new in 1970. Car was built third week of June in Arlington.
