Original 1970 Firewall Pics

I'm trying to figure out where certain holes are to be drilled for RPO U14 tach wire, and RPO ZL2 cowl induction hood wiring harness. I've gotten pics of several different cars with varying locations. Would anyone with a Baltimore built 70 with RPOs U14 & ZL2 be able to post pics of where these holes are drilled in the firewall? They are .75" in diameter and located in the vicinity of the accelerator cable.

I looked in there. It's not very clear and I have seen variations from plant to plant. I'd like to see an unmolested Baltimore built car with RPO ZL2 and U14.

Re: Original 1970 Firewall Pics

Tom, check this out and see if this is what you are looking for. I posted these back on March 14th. This is a Baltimore car and has both U14 and ZL2.

Rick,

That's exactly what I needed to see You replied before I got a chance to email you. The only question I have on your picture is which of the lower holes was for the ZL2 harness. I only need to drill 1 down there since I'm doing a stick car.

Re: Original 1970 Firewall Pics

Tom, I not only see variations between plants but also within plants. Typically I see the ZL2 harness and grommet exit through the hole that is directly to the right of the firewall pad hole and closest to the steering column access hole.

Re: Original 1970 Firewall Pics

OK, I took some pics of the findings I've had so far. First, here is where I marked my firewall for the holes to be drilled.

Now, here is the firewall marked where other confirmed ZL2 cars from other plants were drilled.

Now here is a shot of the inside near the gas pedal.

It seems to me the most logical place for the hole for the ZL2 would be where the Kansas City car was drilled. Only because the firewall pad has a relief punch out next to the accelerator cable. If it were drilled in any of the other ones, the firewall pad is going to be in the way in a manner of speaking.

Re: Original 1970 Firewall Pics

Have to remember that the holes were punched or drilled before that pad went in, so as the car went down the line, if the pad was in the way, they made do however they could. If you have proof Balto cars used one particular spot, put it there.

Re: Original 1970 Firewall Pics

True, I hadn't thought about that. I am sitting here studying the assembly manual. They moved the hole for RPO ZL2 at least twice according tot he revisions. The one thing they don't list on there anywhere that I can see is RPO C06. I know where it goes, but find it odd that it's not listed on any of the 4 pages showing firewall punctures.

That would be great Jim, thanks! I can wait a day or 2, I just need to get this part along with the rest of the interior done by the end of next week.

I could swing by Sunday...I'll be in Maryland, if you will be around that is. Did you come across a top switch bezel?
