I would say White but it could go either way.

My 1970 SS is [75-75] solid Red w/[791] White bucket seat interior, and has the Black D88 stripes ........

I've seen cars ordered both ways, so "I don't think this is a right or wrong question"..... it's either ....
I think it is the owner's preference now, w/o some form of original documentation/proof,
just as it would have been, when the car was ordered from the factory "brand new", back in the 1970's ...

Some years ago, I ask a guy in KC at a Chevelle show, why some cars had black interiors w/white stripes .... and other cars had black/black - white/black - white/white - red/white - red black - ect.
His answer was ....... That's the way they did it, back then !!!....... [either color, could be correct] .... Don.

Re: 1972 SS 454 Chevelle Stripe Color??

Fyi

The interior had no bearing on what the stripe color would be. Only the top color did.

In 1971-72 you had to chose what color you wanted when you ordered the car, black or white except when black or white vinyl or painted roof was ordered. Then only certain color stripe could be had with the roof color.

For instance, red car, white roof (paint or vinyl) got white stripes as default. Black not available, there was a specific chart that spelled out the color clashes.

All I have is a 1970 Color chart but you can see the interior has nothing to do with it.
