Have they changed the design of pressure plates and clutch discs that are included in kits. I went from a 10 spline to a 26 spline Zoom ZZZ 30006S bought it from Summit. The pressure plate fingers are much higher which to me will cut down on my free travel and the outside shape of the housing is different. The new clutch disc has 6 smaller springs instead of 5 bigger ones like the old disc has. The picture Summit has on their website also looks more like the old one. Pics new on left old on right.
Did you buy a matching flywheel? There may be thickness differences on the matching flywheel to compensate for a portion of the "taller" diaphragm. The addition of a 1/8" block protection plate typically used with aftermarket steel bell housings will take up some of the dimension differences.
Still, you may have to fabricate a custom fork ball if you retain the existing clutch linkage geometry.
No, I'm using what is on there. I've never run into so many problems trying to get the right parts for the car. It's like a never ending battle. Can't even go to a auto parts store to check one because nobody had any in stock. :frown2:
I have seen and I have used both styles that are in your pictures. They all seem to work fine.
When I bought the Brute Power 11in for the 70 several weeks ago, it was a little different from the one that was in the 70. The clutch that was in the 70 was working just fine, and as the saying goes, "if it ain't broke don't fix it". But since I was completely replacing the Muncie and rearend, I just though it would be wise to go ahead and install a new clutch. Well, I now have 200-300mi on the Brute Power and it is just fine.
Also, all diaphragm clutches with the raised fingers use the short throwout bearing. For Chevys, there are only 2 bearings, long and short. MOST people use a clutch with the raised fingers (my preference), thus, most Chevys use the short bearing.
The Brute Power I bought looks like the left pressure plate in your pictures.
Thanks, both set-ups are using the same short throw out bearings. It just seems that the fingers come up out of the new PP so much higher and they're even bent with a radius in them where as the others are flat. You wouldn't have the part # on the one you bought would you.
Just a follow up.Talked with Perfection Clutch (makers of Zoom Clutches also) themselves this morning. What he told me about the center section springs on the CD made sense. In fact someone on this website was complaining about the exact issue. He told me with all the different parts that are available today some people would run into the problem of the larger springs hitting on the flywheel mounting bolts. That is why they went to smaller springs and changed the dia. where they are mounted in the center section. As far as the PP fingers he said that the way they are designed they are more throw out bearing friendly now. I can also see this and always wondered why they wouldn't have done this years ago. If you go back and look at the pictures you will notice on the new PP right at the very end of the fingers instead of coming straight up with a sharp edge they are bent over and radius-ed to create a smoother contact area on the throw out bearing. As far as height on the fingers he said that will change also as you bolt the pressure plate to the flywheel with the clutch disc in between.
