Ok I ll try to make this as short and complete as possible. My 66 Malibu was my daily driver 15 years ago, 11 years ago I pulled it out put my 4yo in it and did a burn off did another one and boom destroyed the rear end.Put a junkyard 71 malibu rearend in it drove it 1/2 mile felt ok parked it jump forward 11 years I got a new GF insperation to work on the malibu got it runnin did some burn offs let her drive it smoked the th350 changed the th350 test drove it the car has a terrible vibration in th e drive train.Did I need to change control arms with the rearend? So many things were changed over such a long time with no real test drives,I drove this car daily 15 years ago and I m sure I would have noticed this vibration .My suspicion is pinion angle is wrong.Ideas? 350 turbo 350 66 malibu 71 8.2 rearend thanks, Until the new th350 I only put half mile on this car in 11 years so I dont know which change caused it.What is correct driveshaft length 350 th.350? I say it didnt vibrate but 15yrs ago I was younger and less observant,
Have the tires been replaced ? Of all the things you mentioned I never noticed tires.Anyway when replacing the rear end there is no need to replace the control arms with it.So unless the bushings on the replacement rear were trashed there I can't think of a way it would cause a problem unless you bought a junk rear.
So,if the tires are still the 11 year old tires then replace the old tires first then see if the vibration is gone.
check the u-joint fit, for being seated in the yoke properly and/or the wrong size u-joint.
Ifs that all looks good , give more detail about vibration ---at take-off, at 50,at 70 or gets better after certain point ?
Angles off usually causes take-off to 20 mph vibration then gets better
Is it a "fast" vibration, or a slower vibration? Remember, your driveshaft turns whatever your gear ratio is. If your gear ratio is, for example, 3.36:1, your driveshaft turns 3.36 times for every one revolution your axles turn. If the vibration "feels" like engine speed, look at driveshaft, ujoints, trans for trouble. If it seems slower, check axles, tires for trouble.
