The shortest version (93-97 F-body) is going to clear best due to the shallowest bellhousing.
You'll still need to open things up at the shifter (obviously) and then cut a center line until it works.
Taking out a 2 foot wide stem-to-stern section is unnecessary if you are willing and able to massage the metal.
Different folks have different views on required transmission clearance, which is fair.
