Auto Gear meets a Long Machine Chevelle Shifter

Jody's Transmissions spending more time with Long Machine Shifters.

I am proud to showcase a perfect fit 1968-1972 Chevelle Long Machine shifter. The 1964-1972 Chevelle lineup is now complete. Through me, I am also authorized to offer special pricing to all forum members.

A Long Machine shifter has a longer pivot mechanism to produce a shorter throw. Your typical Hurst shifter has a 3-3/4" pivot and the Long has a 5-1/4" pivot. Plus the 1/2'" rods with heim joints are top shelf too.

That setup looks sweet! Not unlike what I've done in the past with a mig welder to get a shifter to a better spot. Like pull the shifter out from under the bench seat in my old C/10. Thanks for all the great work you're doing for the hobby and industry, Jody!

Looks great.

Jody, I am assuming it will work with a muncie and will it fit under the factory transmission hump without cutting?

Jody,
That's great, been a long time coming. Now we need one for a Nash/Richmond 5 speed in our Chevelles. Any chance?

Special forum member pricing will be about 25% less than any mail order pricing. A group purchase would net a greater savings if there is an interest.

To keep the moderators happy I will do pricing through PM's.

Does it work with a console and a Muncie handle?

So true! I had one on my Richmond 5-speed, one of the best shifters I have ever used.

The more options, the better for our cars. Thanks for the kind words.

Stock Muncie will work too with no tunnel cutting.

Re: Auto Gear meets a Long Machine Chevelle Shifter

The more I watch and hang around the more I consider ditching the 5 speed / OD plan and going back to the stout 4 speed.

bolt in, good quality stuff and no beating around the bush (and the car) to get one ordered and installed.

This is a pretty sweet shifter, for sure. Im going back to a 4 spd, screw it. I have 3.42's out back so just gotta plug some numbers as far as gears go.

Very cool stuff!

Beaux,

If you already have the 5 speed installed, I wouldn't go back to a 4 speed. I think you'd get bored pretty quick. My Nova has a 4 speed with 3:42 gears & I constantly find myself looking to shift in to 5th gear. The high revs get old very fast, even with the 3:42s.

I refuse to cut up the floor or open the trans tunnel, but it desperately needs an OD 5th gear. So as soon as funds allow, I plan on ordering a Keisler RS-500 for the car.

Just my 2 cents...
