I think it is time to replace my valve steam seals. From all of things i have read bought the signs of them needing replacing, smoke at startup is that they need replacing.
Right now in my chevelle I have a NOM Small Block Chevy 350 in it. from what i know it is all stock.
From you guys, I would like to know which is the best valve stem seals i should use.
expect to pull each valve spring. Might be a good time to check or replace your valve springs if they are old and tired.
I used the Comp viton seals. Seem to work well, but I only did them this spring. As a first timer of changing springs/seals, I did make a video of the process and posted it on youtube.
I used the viton seals also. i had fairly new teflon seals and it sometinmes smoked at startup, but the main problem was the oil consumption....couple quarts a year.
This question really cannot be answered without knowing what seals are on the heads now. I am not sure what you mean by an NOM engine ???
There are several types of seals used in Small Block Chevy engine. They range from a simple "O" ring on the early engines to a very good metal cased positive seal on late model engines. The problem is that yo cannot just put a modern seal on an old engine without machining the heads to accept them. Depending on the valve springs you have you might not even be able to use an umbrella seal.
So this question really cannot be answered without more information. You can pull a valve cover off and look through the valve springs and possibly get an idea but in all reality you need to pull a spring and see what you have now. And they could very possibly be different from intake to exhaust.
I know its not a cracked head leaking coolant. yes it means non original motor,

I appreciate the knowledge of everyone here, i know my question are of a skilled novice,, Lol,, I will let you guy know this weekend Ill take off a Valve cover and see what i have TY again
