Yea, i was looking at the eagle kit from summit part # ESP-B13004E030 (since mine is going to be infront of an automatic, i figured i would get the balanced kit with flexplate and everything) but it says "they're based on a 4.030 inch bore size" now is that talking about like cylinder bore being .30 over?? Ugh, this always confuses me!!! Thanks for bearing with me!
Oh yea, i tried reading that thread and i didn't know what the heck "zero-deck" meant??!! LOL, but i'm trying to learn. Thanks
Sorry about that, zero deck means that when you assemble the engine the piston will be even with the top of the block.
Yes .030 is the bore size & it is done in even increments normally .020, .030, .040 & .060 for a small block with bigger overbores for Rats pretty common.
I am not a real big fan of Eagle cranks due to sizing issues I have seen & I never recommend a "balanced" rotating assembly from mail order houses.
We do all are balancing in house as the generic mail order stuff we have seen just doesn't impress me.
The only import cranks we will use is Scat as they do all finish sizing & profiling in house except for the cast ones & these they check & polish before shipping.
They ain't perfect all the time but I can't remember the last time I had to send one back except for one that was apparently misboxed & would not balance a few weeks ago.
In my opinion, you would be better off dealing with a shop you are comfortable with that is local to you for all your machine work. Ask your friends or folks on this board for recommendations but decide for yourself who is going to do your work,,,
You are probably going to get people who tell you they bought stuff from so & so & never had a problem & this is fine when it comes to parts but,,,, problem is how do you or them check balance??
Just because it looks purdy & seems to work don't necessarily make it right,,
This is not a knock on the good shops out there but some of the places that give their work away are probably not spending too much time checking things real close
I guess we are a littlie "picky" here but some of the stuff I have had to redo is pretty ugly,,,,
