What frame and engine mounts do I need??

Current: 1970 Chevelle with 307 small block and Turbo 350
Future: 1970 Chevelle with 454 big block and Turbo 350

Can we use the existing frame mounts and motor mounts? Or, do we need different ones? IF we need different ones, what are the part numbers? Thank for all help offered!!

Bruce

Re: What frame and engine mounts do I need??

307 has its own style frame mounts...they look similiar..but wont work.
You"ll need 350/400/big block frame stands.

1971 Pontiac Lemans Olds 350
1973 Buick Centurion Ragtop 455
1974 Chevy El Camino Classic 350
1976 Pontiac Trans Am 455
1997 Honda Valkyrie 6 cylinders,6 carbs.

x2 on wrong stands, been down that road myself!!!!!,swap them out for the 97CH001 off the summit site,I've used these myself, the 307 ones are somewhere between 1/8"-1/4" wider if I remember correctly, hardware is hard to get at,I pulled lower control arms out!!!

Re: What frame and engine mounts do I need??

Measure the frame mounts in the area where the motor mount bolt goes thru, mine are 2 5/8" . I'm in the process of changing my motor mounts now. I have a 71 Malibu that had a 307 in it and now is a big block (done by the previous owner). He must have changed frame mounts but he had the wrong motor mounts in it they were too wide where the bolts go thru. I ordered a set of motor mounts that fit correctly that are the 2 5/8". I bought mine from RockAuto they are DEA part # is A2283. I looked them up and they are the correct motor mounts for a 350 or big block the 307 has a different motor mount part # so you may have to change the frame mounts too. A 70 has the same part #'s.

Be careful with the anchor brand mounts. They're made overseas in various places and some are complete crap. I have 307 frame perches and after weeks of shopping and measuring and comparing wound up with energy suspension brand polyurethane 307 style interlocking mounts. They're just right, and there are lots of guys on this site running them on bbc's without problems.

Re: What frame and engine mounts do I need??

Tried doing my motor mounts the other day had nothing but problems. Found out the PO did not change the 307 frame mounts. It was either change the frame mounts (which I read is a real PITA unless you pull the bottom A Frame out) so instead I went with a set of Energy Suspension Motor Mounts that had the same dimensions has the ones the PO had in it and it looks like it's going to work.

Re: What frame and engine mounts do I need??

what the last two guys said. Energy Suspension has a interlocked poly mount in black that work on the 307 frame stands. My green car was a 307, is now a 406, same stands.

We did the same thing on a '69...originally a 307 car...used those frame stands and replacement Energy Suspension motor mounts on a 396 engine.
Worked fine...no prob with headers either.
The key is...must use 307 only motor mounts with the factory 307 frames!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been discussed in here MANY times.

What Bill said. The engine doesn't know what mounts they are. If you have 307 stands, get 307 mounts and be done.

Bruce, the Energy Suspension Part # is 3.1114G. I got mine off the shelf at AutoZone.
