557 big block chevy

finally did it. getting my engine built. was looking at crate engines, but decided to go to local engine builder to have one built. just a tad more expensive, but i think the results are going to be worth it. going to put this in my nova. can't wait, looking at towards end of summer for engine to be complete, which is fine due to i have other things to do, will keep all informed on results & performance, Jim

Pulling the trigger is always fun. Now you get to contemplate any other upgrades to the drivetrain while awaiting your soon to be power. Congrats and keep all informed.

Re: 557 big block chevy

i just built a 9 7 to 1 motor and i can run it on 87 octane so thats a plus. Your leaving power on the table but thats ok considering how much youll save on gas with lower octane fuels. great job so far!

Re: 557 big block chevy

with my cam choice, engine builder built a engine like mine except it was a 10 to 1 540, made 745 hp with 680 ft. lbs tq, (not sure at what rpm) hoping to be close for those same numbers, but my cam is alittle more aggresive, Jim

Re: 557 big block chevy

If you can do it, I would put washers under the nuts on the stud girdles. It saves the stud girdle from getting eaten by the nuts when you loosen them to check the valve lash.

Re: 557 big block chevy

557 dyno results are in. final compression is 9.72:1

engine actually made more horsepower & torque with a 2" spacer, but for the extra money i didn't think i will be losing anything on the street, more then happy with the figures, Jim
