Re: Crankshaft TDC dot

I think he is talking about the timing gear on the front of the crank, and is saying that he doesn't see a dot on it to line up the cam and crank gears "dot to dot".

Re: Crankshaft TDC dot

Yes 3 keyways what do I do? No dot at 0 on the crankshaft gear heads are off so I can see TDC easily

Do I just put the crank at TDC for 6 and 1 then camshaft dot at 6oclock? this should be tdc for #6 ? then 180degrees is tdc for 1?

Re: Crankshaft TDC dot

Thanks Dave. That's what I was thinking but I have never seen a multi-keyway crankshaft gear with no 0. So I just found my 0 put my Timing Chain Dot at 6 o clock.

Re: Crankshaft TDC dot

0 would be the keyway without a mark in that case. put it on that keyway, install the chain bring it to TDC on #1 or #6, drop lifters into the bores. depending on wheter it's 1 or 6, both lifeters should be all the down and the other two should be up off the base circles but those lifters should at the same height or very close.

Re: Crankshaft TDC dot

If you have a cam card and a degree wheel, it would only take about an hour to find the correct keyway.

Re: Crankshaft TDC dot

Point the crank key directly at the center of #1 cylinder and put the cam dowel at the 3 o'clock position and install the gear set.
