Re: What is the best way to install an oil pickup ?
Remove the pump from the engine and make a support for it so that it sits level on the workbench. I use 1 piece of 2" X 4" and other lumber scraps to make the support. Either buy or make a tool so that you can tap the pickup in place by putting pressure on the ridge, as stated in a previous post. Warm up the pump with a heat lamp or shop light for several hours and put the pickup in the freezer. Also look closely at the pump inlet and the pickup for any dings or gouges in the mating surfaces and fix them first. Parts should go right together if these steps are followed.
