67 sbc alternator bracket

Looking to put stock exhaust back on my 67 327 Camino and get rid of the headers. While searching for, and comparing prices of, the alternator bracket that bolts to the exhaust manifold I checked Rick's Camaro and Ground Up. Sadly the photo from Ground Up says it is not representative of the actual part. The one from Rick's Camaro, at $6.00 less, seems to be correct. (Both Camaro & Chevelle take the same part number 3878256.)

Anyone know of another source by chance?

Re: 67 sbc alternator bracket

The one from Rick's looks like it would have solved my problem with the piece of crap I bought. I have headers, so I bought the 2 pieces that are sold everywhere--the alternator won't swing over close enough for the top bracket to work. That Ricks piece looks like it would raise the alternator enough to miss hitting the lower bracket. Oh well, I already made my own.

I don't think the stock alternator adjustment brace will work with the header setup, one has to use a "universal" style single adjustment brace bolted to the water pump.

Correct. I've got the stock bottom alternator bracket bolted to the Mr Gasket header bracket. That locates the alternator differently and you can't use the stock upper bracket.

Re: 67 sbc alternator bracket

Ditto. I tired replacing the makeshift adjustment bracket I have now with the more durable stock unit and not only won't the alternator align due to placement but, at least in my case, the belt is a couple of inches longer with the header setup.

Re: 67 sbc alternator bracket

I bought the aftermarket alt mounting bracket at Orielly's and
used longer belt and adjustment bracket to clear my tall valve covers. then I had to slot upper bolt hole on orginal p/s lower bracket to lower
p/s pump slightly so alt belt would clear. then make longer slotted
adjustment bracket to secure p/s pump. Used alt ajdustment bracket, cut to fit, to clear rs valve cover on rear of a/c cpmpresser (stock unit)
