Cool Best fit Header for 67' bbc Chevelle ?????

Ok Guys im trying to find out the best fit header for my 1967 Chevelle with a BBC in it. It does have power steering as well, Ive tried 3 different headers and everyone of them require that i unbolt the engine from the drivers side motor mount just to get it in. not to mention it still fits pretty snug against the steering rod. Ive thought about going to the shorty headers, has anyone tried those? please let me know. Ive herd headman has a good set, but have no idea what the part number is. so if anyone can help please do. thanks

All I can say about shorties is that they dont do much more than manifolds.

Unbolt the engine, yeah, for sure, and usually have to raise the enigne a couple of inches to get it in there, for any brand of header. No avoiding it. With the 2" Hooker # 5 tube should be clearanced a bit with a socket.

I had 2" hooker comps and had to beat tube 3 to clear the steering shaft. Went with the 1 3/4" headman elite form jet hot and they fit fine without any hammering. And, oDdly enough, the hp and torque went up slightly on the dyno!

Re: Best fit Header for 67' bbc Chevelle ?????

Seen a lot of previous posts talk highly about the Hedman Elites for this application.

I have a '66 block going into a '67 with headers (unknown brand - though they worked well with the 454 I pulled) --- My concern has been more of access to the oil filter. With the 454 in, I had to loosen the driver's side header at the engine so I could swing it out just a bit to allow enough room for the oil filter to slide out/in. Any comments on this would be appreciated as well.

Chris, I've had no problems accessing the oil filter. I wrap a piece of alum. foil around the header, in case I spill oil from the filter(trying to keep that jet hot coating clean!), but I get the old filter out and the new one in with no probs.

Just put 2" Hedmans on my 66 part #66002 for the coated. See my post in performance about the fit. I'd stick with the 1 3/4 if I had it to do again.

did you have to heat the header first before bending/denting with a socket, and by heating the header will it damage the coating?

Talking Re: Best fit Header for 67' bbc Chevelle ?????

Last summer i bought the Flowtech ceramic coated ones.
I had to lift the motor a little. Then after scratching the crap out of them i figured out the passenger side would not fit (the front tube hit the crossmember) So i cut 3/4 of an inch out of it warmed it up, bent it together and weldid it. Worked out fine and all the ugly stuff is on the bottom. I think they were less then $250( I got a real good deal from my local speed shop when i demanded a refund) So if your up for a little labor they look great in the engine compartment.

Re: Best fit Header for 67' bbc Chevelle ?????

if the header hits the steering, sometimes you can shim the steering box, it will swing the shaft towards the fender well just enough-also there is a little wiggle room where the shaft goes thru the firewall
since their a tight fit, if the body is off a little on the frame, can cause steering interference
i prefer not to dent any pipes, cut and move them, but sometimes a little "tap" is needed, lol

I was thinking of a 2" primary tubes...maybe even stepped if they dont cost an arm and a leg.
