Alignment shims

When replacing the stock upper a-arm shafts with the offset shafts, do you add back all the shims that you previously removed or do you add/delete shims because of the offset? I know I'll have to have the front end aligned so I need whatever is necessary to get to the alignment shop. Is there some rule of thumb used? Thanks.
