Re: 1969 El Camino SS

Looks like you'll need another complete '69 Elky for a parts car to get all the stuff that's missing.

That's what I would do and just use the trim tag.
I would have left everything else there.

I had a few other interested buyers that wanted to just the motor and tags but I would not seperate them. When Robert came along he said he would take everything and that is why I sold it to him.

Re: 1969 El Camino SS

I don't blame you, the rest of it is only worth 8 cents per Lb.
The price went up a little this week.

Re: 1969 El Camino SS

I could never own that car, I'd get whiplash answering the devil on my left shoulder telling me to just switch the tags and that "resto angel" telling me to go buy another spool of wire.

Re: 1969 El Camino SS

This will be a great story when the car is finished. I don't know of any other reunion cases like this with someone putting the engine back with the body after 20 plus years.

Using parts from a donor car is not a crime. Lots of people do it.

But in my opinion switching tags around is not ethical. I would never have considered switching tags on my car even though it was a basket case. It would have been easier to do that, but my conscience would never let me do it.

Re: 1969 El Camino SS

True but from the pictures it looks like the tag is the only part on the car that is usable.

Re: 1969 El Camino SS

There might be more usable there than what we can see from the pictures.

It may be a long and rough road, but in my opinion there is enough there to start with, especially if they can get a good title.

Re: 1969 El Camino SS

Did you ever see the pics of the 1st General Lee after they pulled it out of a muddy junkyard in Georgia?

They actually restored that car... I think that one would make this look like a walk in the park!

This project, while noble, it pretty darn crazy!
I guess "anything is possible" will be demonstrated when this one is finished.

This is nothing short of incredible. Kudos to Kurt and Andy for coming up with the match in the first place. Robert has a formidable job ahead of him, but I have no doubt that it can be done!

Thanks Bill, I was thinking the same thing. If it wasn't a real SS I would'nt have done it. To be honest I didn't make a lot on the deal. I did it more for the story and factor.
I hope Robert can "get'er done"!
