Somewhere along the line a head may have been replaced.
BTW ,theres no way to validate the DZ application as you keep posting it.
Those heads came on more than just the 302:
3927186....69-70...302/350......Camel hump,64cc chambers,accessory holes

I read somewhere that M castings were run as test castings, and if they were o.k. they were machined and used like normally dated castings. Might have been on camaros.org.

Re: chevy cylinder head casting date M 49 Need help!!

I have checked out the camaro.org and it says that only blocks were coded with M, does that mean blocks only or does that same thing go for heads...would these be same or more valuable than others, like i said these heads came off the exact same engine and it was off a camaro 69 or 68 cant remember, with a manual transmission... I would say its really something that gm did after they tested them instead of throwing them away they placed them in production just like that site says.

I have a water pump that also carries M as the month code. It is cast M-XX-8. I do not know if it was the test situation as stated on the Camaro site, or if that was just a guess. Could also have been some form of a mistake. So far the only items I have seen in 20 years have been related to this exact period of Flint built small blocks.

Re: chevy cylinder head casting date M 49 Need help!!

I guess it really is hard knowing what these M coded parts really are.. Would these heads i have, have the same value as other coded pair of heads from the 302 dz, or do people really go for the castings instead of the date codes. I was thinking of getting rid of these but im not yet sure, if the m coded head i have is really a piece that made it out of the foundery i would like to keep them since that would really mean something special, meaning a real history about chevys past production activities.
