Here it is.

242/242, 114/108, .520"/.520" gross lift and lash at .024"In/.026"Ex.

GM called it a 307/298 and a 316/302 cam, (Chevy Power books 6th and 5th editions). Crane doesn't list advertised duration even though they are licensed to re-pop it and WBR call's it a 336/316.

Also HPBooks call's it a 306/306, so go figure.

Imho, I figure a good old CC 280 Magnum should be a good hy-cam match for it

FOr a hyd equivalent look for something like 227/232@.050 and shorter
seat figures, like 268-280.

Comp makes a 279 Nostalgia flat tappet hyd that is supposed to have the idle and sound of the 396/375 in a hyd cam.

Re: cam specs 375 HP 396

Is there a reason you want the same cam? It's a very old design and the newer stuff is far superior. The idle really isn't that nasty and the cam not that big for the duration numbers at .050.

Get a UD/Lunati 272/272 solid cam. It's advertised as a LS-6/L-78 replacement cam. 238/238 dur @ .050. .550/.550 gross lift, 112 LSA .022/.022 lash. It idles just like the factory cam but has much more low end and mid range. BTDT.

I do not know that much about cams, but what I am looking for is a stock sounding375hp cam that performs better without all the constant adjustments of a solid lift cam. I have power drum brakes. I have the 858 sq.port heads and a 962 block punched to about a 427.

Re: cam specs 375 HP 396

From my personal experience, setting the solid lifters all the time is a myth. I probably put close to 200K miles on our COPO Chevelle without constant adjustment. In 28K miles on our L78 Chevelle, I checked the lifter clearances once and they were fine. If you have to set your lifters all the time, you have problems elsewhere. Rocker nuts backing off, keepers pulling, rocker studs pulling or backing out, or other problems may be present. Over the years there will always be a minor amount of valve train wear that will have to be adjusted for. If you start running big valve spring pressures, these problems will be magnified. With stock type valve springs and the amount of driving that most people do, adjustments will be few and far between. Besides, do you really want to lose the solid lifter sound?

i agree with this. i had an ls6 for around 5 years and probably only adjusted the lifters 3 or 4 times and then they barely needed a tweak. i was told once (by an engine builder) that an engine that came from the factory with solids such as the ls6 or l78 were different than when you installed a non oem unit in that the factory deals did not require nearly as much adjustment. that really didnt make sense to me. has anyone else ever heard that? BTW around 1982 i was scrounging a parts shop for some BB components and ran into a NOS l78 cam still in the tube. i picked it up for $25 didnt end up using it and either tossed it or gave it away. sure would like to lay that on ebay for a few days.

I think Gene, (427L88) and Von hit the nail on the head, BUT...

Here is CC's Nostalga + LS-6 hy-cam you asked about.

PN 11-670-4, 276/229/283/236, 112/?, .530"/.524".

Vs GM's LS-6 at;

316/242/302/242, 114/108, .520"/.520" gross lift and lash at .024"In/.026"Ex.

Notice that you can't compare them b/c one is a hy- and the other a solid!!

The deal with the factory solid cams vs the more aggressive aftermarket solid cams is just that!! A factory warranteed cam vs an aggressive aftermarket solid cam!!

pdq67

PS., and I am a solid cam guy and have daily driven a factory solid cam a long time way back when with no issues with tappet noises! I just checked it say, every third or forth oil change or when it started to "sewing machine" a bit is all..

AND I like the about 4 percent more power everywhere a solid cam will generally produce over and above an identical acting cam spec'ed as a hy-cam!!
