How easy is it to install C Clip Eliminators? Do I need them?

For my piece of mind, I want to install C clip eliminators. I have a 12 bolt chevy rear end with an Eaton Posi, 31 splined axles, and 4.11s.

- At what horsepower should I really be concerned? My car weighs 4100 lbs with me in it and I am pushing 600 HP.

- How easy are they to install or is my best bet to have a shop do it?

- Also, will the axles stay in the same location after they are installed or does the axle shift outward slightly? I run a large tire and want to make sure my tire-to-fender spacing doesn't change.

Thanks!

I would put them on. I am a huge fan of running them on a race car. They are not difficult to put on, but as far as I know you have to buy axles made for c clip eliminators. I could be wrong, its been a LONG time since I didn't buy race axles with the eliminators.

I bought strange axels and a c-clip eliminator kit from strange engineering. Everything went together easily. it all comes in the kit, and doesn't move the flange . used the same brake drums and shoes it all clears.

Hi Ryan,
I have a 12 Bolt Housing with C-Clip Eliminators already installed with Moser Forged Axles if you are interested.

I would install Moser Flush Mount 9" Ford large bearing ends for non c-clip axles
(7900FM):

I would also order a set of Moser Axles with the Large Press on Bearings.

they are very easy to install and at that weight and power I would run them for sure. Nothing should move as far as wheel and tires, but you will lose room for the parking brake spreader bar if running drum brakes. If you decide to go that way, be sure to stuff rage in the tubes before you cut the ends off so you dont leave a lot of metal in the tubes. Use a sawzall for cutting and use a piece of 1/16" pin stipe to wrap around the tube as a guide.

Ok, thanks. I might go for it then.

I put them on my old 12 bolt before I bought the Moser housing. You ruin a good 12 bolt when you install them and I didnt like how they went together, seems like alot of weight hanging on very little metal. I ended up selling my 12 bolt with c clips after I went to Moser.

Re: How easy is it to install C Clip Eliminators? Do I need them?

i have used the Moser kit, liked it better than the Strange-you can buy the aftermarket GM small ends, weld them on, open up your backing plates a little, retain your ex brakes, order the new axles and your good to go, even a good time to upgrade to 33 spline
some of the c clip elim. kits have interference inside the axle tube (GM kind of squished it downsizing it) and you might have to grind it inside

when your credit cards are maxed, have the limits raised
