blueprint engines 496 opinion

Considering purchasing a Blueprint engine model BP4961CTC and was wondering what you guys think? Has anyone had any history with these engine builders? Thanks in advance.

Re: blueprint engines 496 opinion

If you could post a link it would be easier for us to review....
HP seems a little soft for a 496. Before you put any money down have you checked with the engine gurus on this site? There are a few that I would trust, I think that you could get a custom made engine that would perform better. You would need to contact them for prices. I'm sure they would be competitive and get you what YOU want for your application, not an off the shelf motor. I personally have direct dealings with Mike Lewis, check out the link in my signature.....

Re: blueprint engines 496 opinion

I think he's referring to the Blueprint engines sold by Jeg's and Competion Products. I know nothing about them other than seeing them in these two places unfortunately.

Re: blueprint engines 496 opinion

Looks like it has some decent parts mixed in with some poor choices elsewhere. I personaly think you would get alot more power vs $ with one of vortec pro's 496's.

~1972 Nova street car, Factory shortblock 6.0L LS, 76mm turbo, JFR218 Cam, calTrac/275's. 8.22/164.70 @3400 lbs. Drag Week 2014 SSRPA Winner.

~2003 GMC 4x4 Factory shortblock 6.0L, 76mm turbo, JFR"Triple"12 cam, daily driver 9.73@139 mph @4850 lbs

Custom LS cams, Yank torque converters, Racetec pistons and more..

Re: blueprint engines 496 opinion

It doesn't sound like a bad deal, but as always shop around. I'd be willing to bet you won't be able to talk to the guy building it or build a comfortable relationship with them. There are sooo many options out there it's mind blowing and makes it hard to make a decision. You will get a million opinions from this site alone. I don't think a high volume oil pump is necessary and I would get a different balancer, but thats my opinion. The overall list of parts seems good. The warranty is impressive too, and for nearly 11 grand I would run the hell out of it within that warranty period! 10.1:1 with aluminum heads = pump gas!

I think Mark makes about 75 more horse for like $4000 dollars less, isn't that about right?

Re: blueprint engines 496 opinion

alowerlevel,
that is the correct link. Am planning on driving on the street on weekends and maybe once in a while take it to the 1/4 mile just for fun. Plan on running a Turbo 400 with a 12 bolt 3.73 or 4.11. Have not owned a hot rod in thirty years and am having a blast with this project. Currently have the car apart and fixin to begin replacing one of the quarters. Any other web pages to look at for turn key crate motors will be appreciated.

Suggestion,,,,,, Look up Mike Saye Carolina Engines. Mike will build you a all around better engine that will make more power and torque. Mike is a past Wold Champ in Super Stock and currently races in Comp Eliminator.

Ron 92Camaro

Forgot to add this, I know a Guy that bought one last year from Summit. I worked on his BG carb. It ran Ok, nothing to get all excited about. You can build a 454 - 461 cheaper and be happier.

where are they located? near you at all? warranty sounds good but if you have to pull it and ship it what's it really worth?
