bbc heads w/raised exhaust ports bad?

I'm planning a 468 build and am shopping aftermarket heads. My car is a 69 chevelle, automatic trans, 2" hooker super comps. Most aftermarket bbc heads have a .300" - .600" raised exhaust port. Does this much of a raised port mean I'll have to dimple a couple of tubes or actually cut and move some tubes? I can't believe that every chevelle out there with aftermarket heads has custom-built headers. I'm already leaning toward the Brodix RaceRites because they seem like great heads and have stock dimensions, but I'm curious about this.

Re: bbc heads w/raised exhaust ports bad?

The Brodix race rites are a good head and without the problem of raised ports in a stock chassis car. I did have both the Meriln rect port heads and dart pro 1 heads in my car with 2 1/8 hooker headers and they fit. I would not try a .600 raised head and expect it not to hit.

I have afr 305s with dynomax 2" headers. They fit just as good with the raised port as the stockers.

How expensive is it, Bill? Would be pretty cool to have a Turbo-Jet 540/700 HP (or whatever it makes) on the air cleaner

Sorry to trample on your post UncleJack.

Looks like he got a 396 sticker and a 454 sticker, cut the "4" of of the 454 and stuck it over the "3" on the 396 sticker.

Re: bbc heads w/raised exhaust ports bad?

AFRs on a rat in my Nova, with 2" Hookers. Fit perfect. I did need to trim the A-arm bolts a little shorter. Trimmed one of the A-arms a bit as well. Just too close for comfort.
One area that was affected is the pipe under the trans crossmember. The header pulled it up enough to hit. Drivers side only.
Now that I'm adding 3.5" exh, I had to carve on the crossmember to get the bigger pipes by.

I run 2 1/8" primary Hooker Super Comps. I've had Dart Pro I 325cc heads last year and presently have AFR 335cc heads on the Chevelle. Both heads have raised exhaust ports but neither were a problem with fit.

Re: bbc heads w/raised exhaust ports bad?

I used canfield heads with 2 1/8" Hookers and had to re-route three tubes on the drivers side and one on the passengers side. I would have been better off building the headers from scratch with all the work I had to put in them.
