Calcium Carbonate (Lime) Media Blasting? Alternative to Soda?

I am wondering if this might be a better option to the usual Soda blasting methods? Pulverized Lime[stone] can be had for $3/50lbs, and does not contain sodium (salt) that may react with metals & primers, the largest downfall to Soda blasting. Pulverized Lime contains trace amounts of Magnesium and Silica, however, combined both usually make up less than 5% Total Composition.

Good Idea? Bad Idea? Looking for input on this one. I will be going to HD/Lowes tomorrow to pick up a few bags of this stuff to give it a whirl on some test pieces.

Calcium Carbonate can be fully dissolved with simple White Vinegar or any acid for that matter. A diluted solution 10-1 of Water to Muriactic Acid in a spray bottle and several clean towels should remove any and all traces of lime.

Thumbs up Re: Calcium Carbonate (Lime) Media Blasting? Alternative to Soda?

Hello, So how was the Calcium Carbonate? I am planning to use it to blast my 4x4 to make a full restore. Does it leaves a film like the sodium carbonate? At the end you still have to neutralize it?

Thanks for your help!
