Re: 69 Chevelle Racing Stripes / Accent Stripes
The 69 I had in 72 - 73 had vinyl top and racing stripes which I believe were influnced by the factory. I am not saying they were painted on by factory but I do think they were invented by GM. Reason? I was discussing the stripes on this particular model with owner of stencil and stripes yesterday who is the oem for these stencil kits for others like Year One. I asked him if he knew any history of the stripes on 69's. He said that when he was developing these stripes the pattern description in the Chevelle restoration guide produced a completely different looking stripe that was not acceptable. After more research he learned that the 70 model trunk stipes were the same stripe that the 69 Chevelles had and thus created a front hood stripe to match. He agreed that it would have been more than just coinsedence that these two were the same and has since reasoned that GM did offer this stipe on some late 69's as a precurser to the 70 year model stipes. Whether they painted the stripe or made the stencil available to dealers he did not know.
For what its worth.
Thanks for the photos Rich, just what I am looking for.
