Dale Jr. calling it quits at the end of 2017

I don't know anybody who doesn't like Jr. It will be sad to not see him racing next year. Good luck to him!

NASCAR lost a lot of fans when Dale died, I think the same will happen when Jr. retires.

Jr needs to retire. He was and never will be the driver his father was. He came from a legacy that didn't pan out. He has been Nascars meal ticket to bring in the fans and that's about it. He should make a good owner and put some good young teams together because he can find young talent.

I wonder if Alex Bowman will be named to replace him? He did quite well subbing for him when he was off for a concussion. He still works for Hendrick.

How many people, exactly, could be the driver Sr. was? Very, very few.

Just because his dad was better doesn't make Jr. a bad driver.....like it or not. He's had a very, very successful NASCAR career.

Here's the reality: Father time catches up to everyone, Jr. has more money than he'll ever possibly spend, and he currently partakes in a sport that his father lost his life in. You have to get out SOME TIME.

Hard to imagine Gordon and Jr. retired....but they are. Or soon will be. And good for them, personally.

Good call on Juniors part. It's time. One of my favorites, but there are others. And Bowman should be a shoe in for the 88 car.

There are only so many head injuries a guy is willing to risk especially with a family to start.

He's got enough money and with licensing and everything else, I'd make the same decision.

That job has got to be a grind. I'm glad he's leaving on his terms. Good luck to him.

I think Kenseth winds up in the car.

I think it's a smart move on his part...getting away from a declining sport...one that's been going downhill for years.
Why risk your neck for something that sucks...

Junior has had a good career. His better years were in Busch series. Most of his cup career has been shadowed by crew chief problems, owner problems and lately injuries. He never found the same dominance he had in the Busch series racing cup. He can drive, but has never found the consistency that other drivers have. He will still hit the HOF on his skills no matter what. He gets to leave on his terms with his health and body to pursue the next level of ownership.

Re: Dale Jr. calling it quits at the end of 2017

NASCAR is going to be running screen printers on full press now in order to cover all those empty seats of Dale Jr. fans. Lol.

Is nascar still on TV?

Of course it is. How would I get my Sunday nap if it wasn't?
