How to get rid of squirrels?

So I have a squirrel(maybe more than one,I don't know?) that gets into my garage that I rent where I keep my chevelle.I can't see where he's getting in at so I figured I just put out some traps or poison,I just don't know where to buy either?Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: How to get rid of squirrels?

Yep. A little antifreeze took care of my chipmunk problem in the garage. Took me a few days to locate the rotting carcass. Not a good idea if you have family pets that frequent the garage though.

Actually I already put out some antifreeze, since there's no other pets around.I can't shoot any guns around the garage(it's a rental).

Re: How to get rid of squirrels?

If you don't have the killer instinct, you can always get a live trap. Squirrels just love long, long drives in the trunk.

Tractor supply, atwoods, or any farm like store should carry live traps.... Put some sunflower seeds in them and it wont be long.

Re: How to get rid of squirrels?

Squirrels always got in my trash barrels years ago so I sat outside with a bb gun. It was a lot easier though when I got my Yellow lab though, what a great dog. You could say squirrel once and she runs to the front door. A pretty smart dog.

Squirrels are just a rat with a bushy tail.

Re: How to get rid of squirrels?

Live trap would be the easiest solution with no rotting carcass to find. Just be aware that squirrels REALLY hate being caged, so he'll be a little rambunctiuos when you get him.

Re: How to get rid of squirrels?

Put some peanut butter in the smallest live trap you can find with the bird seeds sprinkled on top of the peanut butter .Take him far away if youre letting him go as he will come right back or better yet shoot him.

Unhappy Re: How to get rid of squirrels?

Some one on U-Tube has a skeet flipper on his deck with some squirrel bate. It's cocked and ready to rock, of course. It does give Mr. Squirrel a "new" direction when released....

I'll get the addy when I get home..

Re: How to get rid of squirrels?

The trouble with antifreeze is that it causes an agonizing, prolonged death. Surely you aren't that hateful.

A .22 sounds like the most efficient plan, but since you can't do that where you are (are you sure you can't if nobody is looking?) then a live trap sounds like the only option, next to a feral cat or hunting dog.

When I was a kid I built a trap out of a sapling & rope plus a garbage bag, a design I got out of a bushcraft book. I baited it with peanut butter. When I came back, the trap was sprung. It worked like a charm, except the little bugger scratched his way out of the garbage bag. I was left with an empty trap and a shredded garbage bag. Redesign time

I have been scolded so many times that I have learned to "speak squirrel". Honestly, they stop & check me out, even to the point of running right up to me. Then again, they aren't nesting in my garage or attic. If you corner one in an attic, the critters bark like dogs. Be afraid at that point unless you are packing heat or enjoy your face being cut to ribbons.

I'm sure granny Clampett has a recipe for squirrels.

You could always try putting him in a jar. Here is a picture from this site back in 2004. I can't recall the thread or who posted it, but this squirrel ran into misadventure and couldn't quite get himself out of the jar. Purportedly he was very angry.
