Exclamation Chevy SS Returns In 2013

Chevy SS Sedan approved and on schedule for 2013.

Possible "Ute"/El Camino.

Re: Chevy SS Returns In 2013

Those are probably pretty good cars, but why do we have so many GM products that were designed by either Holdens or Opel? Did GM lay off their US staff? And the decision to import that police car and not have a civilian counterpart is weird. Those cop cars spend a few years on police duty and then get sold to us civilians anyway. The 1996 Caprice cop car and the Impala SS have a lot in common and that did not hurt them from what I know.

Ill believe it when I see it. Then again, the Camaro came back when everyone thought it never would.

I'd get a Ute, or Elky, or whatever it is.

Hope they do the UTE/Elky for the US. I'd trade off my Silverado for one in a blink. I had the pleasure of driving a rental Pontiac G8 for a week in British Clolumbia about a year and half ago, and was very impressed with it. Lots of BMW 5 series character to it. The V6 it had ran good and had plenty of punch. Wonder where they put the battery on the UTE...the Poncho had it in the trunk??

The "Ute"/El Camino by Holden was on Top Gear a while back. It seems to be a big hit down under.

Re: Chevy SS Returns In 2013

I'd like to see the Holdens came back over again. The linked Ute is based off the same series of chassis as the GTO and G8.

It would be nice to see 4 seats, rwd, LS based V8 power, and a 6 speed manual.

Re: Chevy SS Returns In 2013

With their "Flexible Manufacturing" GM can build two completely different vehicles on the same assembly line. They have just started building the new Buick Regal on the same line as the Camaro in Oshawa. The Regal had been built in the Russelheim plant in Germany. One shift could build enough Camaros to supply the market but one shift isn't really a money maker these days. Two cars and two shifts are much better. The truck plant used to run three shifts and that was ideal. They may import this new vehicle but the Oshawa truck plant, with over 3 million square feet, hasn't built anything in a few years now. This might make the low volume Ute feasible here. The el Caminos were never big sellers so I wouldn't imagine the Ute would be much different. Now, a Chevelle SS is something that could get me interested.

Re: Chevy SS Returns In 2013

So, let me get this straight. GM is talking about bringing a car to North America and they call it the "SS Sedan". This car comes in 3 variations, a sedan, a wagon, and an El Camino, and it's a RWD V8 powered car.
Kinda sounds like another car GM used to have that I can think of...

I hope they don't name it Chevelle unless there's a 2dr coupe to wear the SS badges along with the El Camino SS. Sedan SS = thumbs down from me, a Chevrolet Super Sport should only have 2 doors. No moredoor Super Sports please. But, the 94-96 Impala SS has become a desirable car already, so the moredoor SS is here to stay...

A sedan I might go for, but this new El Camino? For two seats I'll take a Corvette. That's just me. I like the new Camaro design a lot more than I thought I would.

I'd like to see them ditch the retro names. The designs do not look retro and the car would likely do better with the import buying masses with a new name. The G8 did much better than the GTO.
