Never owned a propane vehicle, but as a kid I pumped it at the gas station I worked at.
Propane in liquid form is about -40 degrees, so you can get a freeze 'burn' that hurts if you are not careful when filling. Propane boils at room temp and is heavier than air and can sit in low lying areas in a gaseous form. It expands, IIRC, from liquid to gas 300:1, so a small amount of liquid becomes a lot of vapour fast. With some safety precautions in place, it is very safe to use. The mileage may suffer, but it is cheaper and burns cleaner as I understand it. I have worked on some propane forklifts and they are much cleaner inside.
