My new barn find! (with pics)

1st time in daylight in 28 years.

Engine

After wiping off the 28 year old coat of wax.

54.000 mile '66 Chevelle SS396 L-78, M-20 4-speed, 4.10 gear, Black-on-Black. In storage since 1979. Garaged all it's life. Complete ORIGINAL numbers matching engine and drivetrain! Nearly flawless original body, floors, chrome, trim, and glass. Very nice trunk pan. Needs no sheetmetal or trim replaced.

It's from my hometown. I've known the car since 1969. I worked on the car many times while I operated a performance shop there in the mid-'70s. The owner, a friend of mine, died last year. I bought it last weekend from his sister.

Here's the link to the Photobucket album showing the rest of the pics taken last Sunday.

More details later.

Re: (with pics)

You lucky dog! What a find. I'm hoping you ditch the sidepipes and hood at least, and return the ride height to earth. Sadly the ultra trick air cleaner setup would have to go also. I guess you can never have too much filter area though.

Re: My new barn find! (with pics)

The original louvered SS hood came with the car, also. It was in his attic for the last 30 years, along with the back seat.

Those sidepipes will be the first thing to go.

It needs to be completely "de-70's-ised"

It'll be a long-term project for sure.

Holy Crap; great find! It definitely came out of a 1970's time capsule, that's for sure. Congrats. I think the air cleaner setup is one of a kind.
What plant was it built at?

Randy:

Great find! Very sweet! Was that thing sitting there with wax on it for all this time? If so I'm putting a coat of wax on my cars before putting them away for the winter, then just buffing them out in the spring.

I'm with Andy, leave it like it is for awhile and drive it that way, Chevreligion stickers, sidepipes, 8 Track Tapes and all.

Congrats

Mark

Great find. Why was it parked? Will the engine turn over? What's all that white stuff on the ground?
