OTC genisys vs Snap On Solus

I just updated my MT2500 and understand that it will be phased out before long. Which scanner do you use in your shops and why do you prefer it ?
Thanks , Jay

Re: OTC genisys vs Snap On Solus

I just picked up a Matco/OTC scanner, the MD1006A. It's way faster and easier to use than my old MT2500, and has graphing features too. Only thing it doesn't have is troubleshooting features. Plenty of information available online, I'd rather buy a subscription from alldata for a specific vehicle, and just pass the cost on to the customer/owner, than pay another $2k for built in troubleshooting features, for as much as I actually use it. I bought it mainly to maintain my cars, and help my friends/neighbors if needed, for a small fee. I've got domestic, asian, global obdII, transmission, abs capabilities with it, and future upgrades are $150 from my Matco guy, easy to do every couple of years vs. $600 upgrades from Snap-On.

The one I have is top of the page.

Re: OTC genisys vs Snap On Solus

I use a Snap On Solus and couldnt be more happier. Only complaint I have is that it goes through batterys often.

Re: OTC genisys vs Snap On Solus

In my shop we have solus and OTC genisys. I prefer the solus as it is faster and easier to use. The biggest advantage of the solus is it has a voltage safety in case someone has rewired the aldl connector. VW has a severe problem that if it has an aftermarket radio or alarm installed power gets directed to the wrong wire on the aldl. Ask me how I know, we found out the hard way burning out the genisys and an old mt2500 snap on. What we do now with VW is send them right to the dealer. If you are looking to purchase I think you would be happy with the solus.
