Re: How do you find a car you previously owned?
one of my favorite subjects. i decided to try and track down my old ls6 about 18 years ago. i bought it new in '70 and traded it in at the same dealer in '75. called the dealership to see if i could get the vin but found out they only keep that kind of paperwork for a few years. called the insurance company, bank, etc. with no luck. even the state only keeps the registration records for a few years after the car moves on to a differrent owner. i was amazed by that. i figured they microfilmed it and kept it indefinetly. i even called the college i attended in 1970 because i had it registered for a parking pass and they told me they didnt keep those records, just the grade and credit info. the closest i came was about a year or two ago i remembered that i had had the car in a body shop to repair a little ding i had in a rear fender. the body shop was still in business and he told me he had just trashed the records recently that would have been from the time period he worked on the car. i suppose if you can remember things like certain work that was done where they may have recorded the vin, or i bet that if you ever had a ticket with the car there might be a record of that still on file. the sad thing is i had kept my original paperwork on the car for years and finally tossed it out during a spring cleaning deal in the late seventies. good luck and if you find a way to do it let us know!
