70 Chevelle Pro Street Convertible 454
I started out with a 307 Malibu convertible, which was one step from the bone yard.
The body was bad, but the frame was good, so I used the frame and convertible parts. I had a sedan body from North Carolina. My good friend, Bob Hughes, cut the parts from the convertible, and cut the roof off the sedan, and created what now is a "Super Slick Pro Street Malibu Convertible."The 454 Big Block is a 454 bored 30 over, with 11 to 1 Forge True pistons. A 305 competition cam with hardened crane push rods, and manley guide plates. Harland sharp roller rockers were used and two 650 C.F.M. Edelbrock carburators sit on a Weiand Tunnel Ram. All chrome in engine compartment was done by Advance Plating in Tennessee. Headman headers and Flowmaster mufflers were used. Most parts for this Chevelle were purchased from Summit Racing in Akron, Ohio.
A 400 Turbo is bolted behind the power plant. For the rear end, we used a 9" Ford Posi with a Morrison 4 bar setup. The wheels are Weld Racing Pro Stars, 15 x 7 on the front, and 15 x 15 on the rear with Mickey Thompson 31 x 18.5. The door handles and trunk key were removed for a clean look. The original gas tank was used rather than a fuel cell. That allows for a full trunk in the car. The battery was moved to the side of the trunk to clean up the engine compartment.
The car was painted '91 Dodge Stealth red by another good friend, Rod Mullins, of East Canton. Many thanks to Bob Hughes, Rod and Gary Mullins for all the help on this Super Slick Chevelle Convertible.

The car has been done for 7 years, 12,000 miles later, still driven daily and enjoyed.
Future plans are to replace the existing engine with a 454 blown engine. Articles have appeared in "Super Chevy" January 1994, and the "National Chevelle Report" December 1993.
