1969 SS

Jeff Dover

Georgia

Let me introduce myself, I am Jeff Dover (TC member # 148) and I reside in Georgia.

The story starts back in the late 80's when I fell in love with the 69SS Chevelles, so I decided that one day I would own one. I went to the Chevy dealer where a friend of mine worked at the parts counter where I borrowed the parts book and wrote down every item I could find for a 69 and ordered it. Needless to say a lot of the items were discontinued but there was a lot available and I did receive all the parts at cost. Everyone thought I was crazy ordering all that stuff without the car but in comparison to prices today it was a bargain. Then the search began for a car to put these parts on.

Well let me tell you I looked at dozens of Chevelles. If it was within driving distance I looked at it. I was looking for a garnet red hardtop, 4-speed and found every color except red. But most of them were basket cases. I found this 69SS in the local Auto Trader about 15 minutes from my house. Well, someone had spent a lot of time putting new GM Quarters and Fenders on the car and getting it ready for paint. It also had a rebuilt 396 in it which I sold to pay for the paint job. You know the story, the guy was getting a divorce and needed the money, so I purchased the car and drove it home. My wife couldn't believe I brought this ugly yellow primered car home but I had the vision of my dream car.

I purchased the car on Nov. 28, 1998. It has parchment bucket interior with console, tilt, speed warning with tach and gauges, remote drivers mirror, auxillary lighting, and AM/FM 8 track.

As most of you know, you are never finished with a car. There is always something else you can do to make it better, so I am adding things here and there.
