I have owned this car since 1978, when I bought it from a junk yard for $500.00, less engine & trans with a smashed left door. The only work NOT done by me was the repaint, done in stock cranberry red in 1979 by a friend, and the flame job and pin striping, and lettering, done at the same time by Tom Taylor, Taylor Shop, Tucson, AZ. during a visit to Illinois.
It has a nickel alloy 350 block with 8:1 forged TRW's, Crower cam, roller rockers, 6-71 supercharger running 12 lbs. of boost, dual 600 Holley 1850's, Mallory ignition, Muncie 4 speed, full ladder bars, and a 4:11 posi, water injection, and Autometer full instrumentation. I am thinking of nitrous for the next modification!
On the dyno, it reads out at 325 hp at the rear wheels, which I was told translates to about 750 hp at the crank. (does that sound like a proper conversion? I was told 2X wheel hp and add 100.) Last time at the track, it did 12.26 average time in it's full, stock+ weight.
It was included in 4 magazines the first year I finished it, including Car Craft, Popular Hot Rodding, Super Chevy, and POWER (a Swedish mag.)
It has survived 20 years of my beating it to death on the streets of Illinois on a daily basis, weather permitting, and trips to Madison, WI, Tulsa, OK, Springfield, IL, and others for various car shows.
