1971 Chevelle

Christian Stein

Germany

Hi guys, you have a great chevelle site. I read that you are looking for chevelles for the “feature cars”. I would like to send you some pictures of my little Chevelle Malibu.

The story:

I´m 30 years old and I live in Germany. I remember the first time I saw an American car in Bullit with Steve McQueen in 1984. Since then the virus began to work. Hot wheels and matchbox model cars dictated my childhood. Some years later, German magazines like hot car, chrome&flames and street magazine show me the greatest cars on earth. I knew, I don´t wanna drive a Volkswagen or something like that anymore. After some usual german cars I bought a black 1993 Chevrolet Blazer S10 Sport. But the insurance and taxes for SUV´s in Germany are very high, therefore I traded the Chevy and bought, don´t laugh, a ´97 Honda Civic. march05_engine_.jpg - 10397 Bytes

After one year I knew, I needed a new car. In Germany you´re able to drive a car, which is 30 years and older, with an historical licence plate. This is very cheap. After a lot of rust buckets I found my ´71 Chevelle Malibu in Berlin. It has a 350cui engine, single seats, black vinyl, double exhaust pipes and the owner adds the ss-strips in red. The rims must be from a SS-model too, I think.

The car was built in Baltimore, I think for the canadian market, with a kilometer tach. The first owner was a guy in Hamburg who drove the car on the “Reaperbahn”. I´m the sixth owner now. The car has some rust on the front fenders, at the rear window area and in the trunk. In the next years I will fix that.

I drive it only at good weather conditions. I can tell ya, I live in a little town (48000 people) and when I cruise down the main road, people get their thumbs up and yelling. Chicks going crazy. I love my car!

I remember a sentence I read in an American mag, I think it was Gary Voth, who said, “you´re never too old to have a happy childhood”. This is my lifestyle. Gasoline flow through my veins. You know watta mean...
