Car was sold new and converted to right hand drive by GM Australia in 1968. Believed to be one of five 67 SS 396 imported. All of them were X California cars. Only three still exist in the country. The original owner is unknown. I knew the car from 1982 - 1985 when a friend owned it. The car was then sold, neglected, and ended up in a shed for 15 years. I tracked it down, and knew it was genuine. All the numbers checked out O.K. I then puchased it, and towed it back to Sydney and started the restoration.
The body was straight, with minimal rust. The engine was not running because it had been driven in 100 degree heat with no oil in it.
The brakes were gone, but all the pieces were there and everything else was good. I was fortunate the car came with spare bits and pieces from a Malibu and also a lot of reproduction stuff.
It also had the original manual and sales brochure in the glove box.
A body cars don't seem as popular down under as F bodys. Corvettes and Mopars are starting to move up in value. For some reason, 1968 up years of Chevelles and GTOs are more plentiful, but genuine big block anything here is rare.
Love the website! Keep up the good work!Regards,

A right hand drive SS gives all new meaning to the slang 'riding shotgun'.
