1966 Chevelle

Kevin Burgess - Uniontown, Pa

I purchased the car in Sept 2007. It has a 396 with a Holley carb, Edelbrock intake, and Comp cam. A 400 TH transmission and a 12 bolt rear with 3:73 gears help pull it down the road. The interior is stock with Sun Pro gauges and tach. 34_.jpg - 6989 Bytes

The story of how obtained the car is somewhat interesting. I had always wanted a 66 Chevelle since I was 12 years old and road in one my uncle owned in the early 70's. After getting married and raising my family the dream was put aside for awhile. When I finally decided to look for a '66 I couldn't find one in my price range that didn't need more work than I cared to do. I ended up buying a nice 69 Malibu that I decided to clone into an SS. The previous owner had already placed SS emblems on the car so I figured I'd finish the transformation. I drove and showed the car for a couple years but always kept my eyes open for a 66.

engine_.jpg - 8003 Bytes One day my wife and I went to look at a 396 engine for the 69. When we walked in the guys garage, I immediately noticed this black 66 sitting there. I asked him if it was for sale and he said no. He was in the middle of a body off resto and didn't want to sell the car until it was complete. He said he did have a 70 SS and a 69 El Camino for sale that were already finished but I wanted the 66. I asked what he would want for the car when it was done and the price again was out of my range. I left that day without the engine but told him I would contact him later in the week. When I called I asked again about the 66 with no luck. Well after a couple weeks of "begging" I convinced him to sell it to me. We towed it home and I immediately began working on it.

The body was done, but the motor needed a lot of work. The complete interior also needed to be finished and the brakes needed work.
All the wiring required completion and a lot of various items needed attention. After 6 months I was finished.

We are now enjoying driving and showing the car. Though we have won a few trophies with it , I tell everyone just owning and driving my dream car is " MY Trophy".
