I've only had the car for a short time ( several months) but I thought it worthy to share with everyone here.
My story begins back in the mid-summer months of this year when me and my wife decided it was time to find another Chevelle to enjoy with our son of 10 who is now really becoming quite interested in the hobby. I've owned a 1972 Chevelle 454 SS clone and also a 1968 Malibu with a 327 and a Muncie M22 4 spd...both very nice cars. We drove around to different car shows and local cruise nights but nothing seemed to catch our eye. We see the 72 quite frequently being that it was sold to a guy locally and when I ask him if he would like to sell it back he's very quick to shake his head with a smile and say " NO!"...lol. When I thought I'd exhausted every opportunity to find one I decided to try one other outlet.
After scouring the Internet and looking through numerous listings I decided to try a site that I had vowed never to use for a nice classic car www.ebay.com. Wait...now before you say it I'm a believer in being at the right place at the right time which is how I found this beautiful 1967 Chevelle Malibu.
The ad that was placed was very descriptive as to the condition of the car and it also contained numerous pictures showing the important areas that buyers want to see. After talking it over with my wife I decided to call the owner to get more details. We spoke for nearly 2 hours on the phone and after about the first 15 minutes I felt that he was genuine about the car so I proceeded. I had a list of items to ask and he was very up front and honest with his answers. We agreed on a purchase price for the car and he ended the auction early.
We exchanged information through numerous emails and he had suggested a shipping company that he had used before. After calling them and speaking to the gentleman he referred me to I decided to give them a try.
The shipping company I chose, www.hoosier-rv-transport.com was very courteous and helpful on the phone. They’re based out of Bristol Tennessee and have numerous hauler's from their fleet ready to pick up at a moment's notice all across the U.S.
I explained in great detail that this was a classic car, hoping that the driver would take special care in delivering it to me. The company set up a time for pick up from the owner in Castle Rock Colorado and it was at that time that I was able to speak with the driver. Much to my relief this guy seemed like a true car guy like me! He had mentioned that this was one of the nicest cars that he has ever delivered and would keep in touch with me every step of the way. When the car was delivered later that week I had my son with me. It showed up at 7:30 am just like the driver had said, and it looked awesome. Both me and my son were very excited now that we had it. It was kind of a double bonus because it was also my birthday. He asked if I could take him to school in it so he could "show it off" to his friends. I laughed and said of course!
After I returned home I looked the car over. They're were no "hidden surprises" and the car was everything I had hoped it to be. My first instinct of the seller turned out to be the right one. There was no misrepresentation of the car at all. I had heard horror stories of others getting burned using Ebay but I took a big chance and glad that I did. The car was on my mind all day and everyone I work with could tell I was anxious to get home.
Now for what I know of this car…
It's a 1967 Chevelle Malibu with a Chevy 350 engine and a T350 automatic transmission with a Hurst Pro-matic floor shifter. The rear end is a stock 10 bolt non-posi with a standard highway gear. The car has a completely custom interior with 2-tone gray cloth/vinyl. The exterior was painted in a base coat clear 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Maroon which shines brilliantly as shown. The custom color was also carried over onto the dash, steering column, and steering wheel.
I was told the car had spent nearly it's entire life in Colorado which is evident by the solid floor pans and frame. The previous owner has taken great care of this car and now that it is part of my family I intend to keep it looking great for many years to come.
Sincerely, Terry Micallef
