1965 Chevelle - "CASSIE"

august2000_rear.jpg - 13617 Bytes I graduated from high school in the spring of '64, and started college that fall. Needing reliable transportation to commute to school, I was able to convince my parents to assist me financially in the purchase of a new vehicle; this vehicle was a '65 Chevelle Super Sport with a 283 small block, muncie close ratio four speed and a positraction rear end. After three years of street racing, I thought it was time to settle down and traded the chevelle in.

Last fall, a buddy of mine was at the local roundy-round track swap meet and called me Sunday afternoon to tell me about this Chevelle that was at the show with for sale signs in the windows. "I know it's not the Super Sport you're looking for," he said, "but you owe it to yourself to see this car." Sunday evening, I called, made arrangements to go see the car at lunch on Monday; bought the car on the spot and had it delivered that evening.

The car comes out of the Carolinas, where it was purchased new with a six-cylinder automatic. The second owner was also from the Carolinas where he pulled the six cylinder out and dropped in a "283." The third owner bought the car less than two years ago, pulled out a "283" along with the power-glide transmission and dropped in a complete rebuilt 350 HP / 396 coupled to a turbo 400 transmission. I am the fourth owner of a very clean '65 Chevelle with less than two hundred miles on the rebuilt to stock specifications motor, and fifty-nine thousand miles on the vehicle.

As I sit here writing this, I have disc brakes (front & rear), quick ratio power steering, a B & M hammer shifter, and last but not least, a Ford nine-inch rear end with 4:11 posi on order; all to be installed immediately upon arrival.

If I can ever get the keys away from my wife who has nick-named the car "CASSIOPEIA," we will both have a great time "cruzin" this summer.

Team Chevelle would love to feature your Chevelle / El Camino on one of our future monthly articles and will send you a Team Chevelle Tag if we use your car as a feature.

To take part, send a few quality pictures to us and as much information as you can (we LOVE reading about Chevelles!)
Note: preference is given to submitted photos, unless you have access to high quality scanning equipment, we would prefer to do the image work and touch-ups.
