Team Chevelle Members #37 and #42This beautiful 64 changed hands in March of 2001 between two long time Team Chevelle Members. What is truly unique is Phil flew to Ontario, Canada (despite.... shall we say.... a slight reluctance to flying...) to pick up his new Chevelle and both Phil and the owner Steve drove the car back to Arizona together.
Steve informed us after the safe journey:
We made it and the trip was very good. We did start out with some sloppy weather but it soon turned into good weather and the roads were really good. We generated a lot of interest along the way and the people were terrific along our journey. Tom Parsons (DZ) is one top notch fellow and if anyone ever get's the chance to hook up with him, DO IT ! His families hospitality is a fine example of that warm southern hospitality we all hear about. He wouldn't even let us leave with dirt on the 64 so he washed it all down for us and prettied her up for the last leg of the trip. He treated us to some great times and some great jawing which was very educational.Phil's comments:I have got to do this trip again and take more time to do it and hopefully in better weather. Besides, Phil has agreed to visitation rights etc.... so I'll have to excercise that clause in the sales deal! I'm so happy that my baby is going to Phil, he'll be a perfect "DADDY" for the Ol'64.
YES I made it home. It certainly felt longer than it looked on the map. I must be getting old cause it sure seems to be taking a while to feel normal. There is one draw back to driving a nice looking Chevelle, too many people ride along side and close to the back just to get a good look I am guilty of doing the same, but now I know how it feels.
For the most part we hit all major cities at non rush hour times. I would like to say it was good planning but I just got lucky. We got snowed on and rained on, murdered a few bugs when we reached the warmer weather and saw some great parts of the country.
If any one wants to know the wrong way to go thru Canadian customs, just ask me. If any of you are thinking of driving your next Chevelle home, my advice is to do it. I wouldn't hesitate a bit to do it all over again.

After many years of "tinkering" with other cars, mostly F-Bodies, I happened along my current long term project which started in 1993. I bought my car from a co-workers son who had it for a couple of years sitting outside. He had bought it from his brother who drove the then 327 powered car until they blew a hole in the oil pan and seized the engine. I had looked at the car several times before I decided to buy it because I didn’t know that much about A-Bodies and wasn’t sure of the particular "quirks" of the model. But I took a chance and it turned out pretty good.
I first started by pulling the old block, I decided that that we should clean up the engine compartment before putting in a new engine… I was so surprised when everything started to come off without the aid of air tools or torches! Right then & there, the decision was made to restore the car and to stop fooling around. Not having done a resto before, I started talking to all the people I know in the business and got some very handy info to get me going. The car was in fairly good condition because it had been parked for most of the time that it was here in Ontario. It was sold new and driven in Alberta for a bit over 20 years. After having a few of the "boy’s" look at it, the 3 year plan was drafted and we started to forge ahead but after various difficulties and delays plus getting married etc… it’s now 6 years later and she’s been doing road duty since Canada Day, July 1st. 1999.

After a full body off restoration which included stripping off 4 coats of assorted colours and dip tanking the body and replacing some of the bad metal with NOS steel. After all the body work was perfect, the car received a good helping of Electric Blue Base Clear. Every single thing that could have been done, has been done, right down to a new interior and all the rubber items. All the original parts including the AM Radio have been boxed and the new parts are all bolt in. No welded modifications so it qualifies as a restified car.
