Is It Having Trouble Passing Gas?

B_ -   After driving hard for about 15 minutes my engine starts to make a ticking sound and loses performance, especially on the freeway. It gets so bad that I have to pull of the road (it will not go over 40) and let it sit for about a half hour. The engine also becomes rough and shakes at low speeds. The engine is not overheating and a tune up did not help either. Please post any information on what the problem is and how to fix it.

GM: -   If you have an exhaust crossover valve on your exhaust, then it is possible that it may be malfunctioning, causing the fuel in the carburetor to boil. The purpose of this valve is to restrict the exhaust on one side, usually the passenger side, when the engine is cold. This forces the exhaust to go through special ports in the intake to warm the fuel mixture. After the exhaust manifold gets hot, the valve should open, allowing the exhaust to travel normally. I have seen these fail to where they cause a ticking sound, but it was all the time and not just after warm up.

D.K. -   You might try checking your fuel pump, coil, and your plug wires. Any of these could be the cause of your symptoms.
