Several Possible Ways:

T_: I have a 1966 Malibu with a column shift Powerglide. I plan on changing the transmission to a TH350. What do I need to do to the column so it works with the TH350?

PK: My 1966 El Camino had a Powerglide but now has a TH350. The original POWERGLIDE column linkage is used. It's not a perfect solution but it works. When you hook up the linkage put the transmission into drive and the shifter into drive and adjust the linkage to that. The drawback is, of course, that there isn't any L1 detent. I still get all three gears, park, and neutral. The backup light switch and neutral safety switch both work.

You might have to add an inch or so to the length of the rod that goes from the column to the cross piece (the part that pivots on the frame and actuates the shifter on the transmission). Check that the exhaust pipe clears; going into L1 pushes the cross piece farther down. A better way is to find the linkage from a big block that had a TH350. With this you could change out the entire linkage system. This would include the proper detents and gear selector indicator.
