T10 Is The Strongest, But Least Original

TT: The input shaft bearing on my M21 makes noise like a gear drive. I was going to rebuild it but had second thoughts- who knows what the inside of this thing looks like? At a swap meet last week I found an M20, M21, and two Super T10's. One has a 2.43 1st gear, the other 2.73 1st. Each was $400. They looked OK (of course, I still have to pull the side cover off). I have a 12 bolt, 4.10 Positraction, 396/325HP motor but with an RPM cam and intake, 750 dbl pump Holley, and stock exhaust. Assuming all are in good shape, which transmission should I go with? I'm leaning toward the higher geared Super T-10 because of the rear. Or do you think I should just stay with the M21?. I do know that this motor has matching numbers and the 325 hp only came with the M20.

JD: I was able to shred several M20's and M21's with a small block on 295/50 street tires back when Muncies were relatively cheap ($100-$150) and plentiful. I would go with the Super T-10 if your going to be hard on it.

RL: The T-10's seem to be a little stronger and besides it's getting hard to find all the innards to make a Muncie top notch. The only thing you might want to check is to see if you can use the same shifter.

BT: The Super T-10 is a stronger transmission, but I am partial to Muncies. Either one will be a good choice for your street car, it just depends if you want the original type or not.
