A Great Crate.

A_: What are the basic specs for the LS7 engine?

DS: The LS7 is a 454 motor, just like the LS6, but the only difference is that the horsepower output is different, at 460+. I have no knowledge of how many were built, but these motors were never factory installed in any production Chevrolet vehicle. These motors were probably dealer installed in a few 1970 Corvettes.

SC: The LS7 was a 454 version of the 427 L88 engine. It had 12.1 compression ratio and a real radical mechanical cam with very high lift cam and a lot of duration. They used aluminum heads with bigger exhaust valves.

JF: I don't have the specs you need, but I know that your local Chevrolet dealer will have them. You can go to the parts counter and ask to see the Performance Parts catalog. The LS7 is still available as a crate motor. My father purchased one for his Nova bracket racer, and the performance is quite impressive. The catalog should list all the specs you need.

JT: The LS7 was 454ci. The "factory rated" horsepower was 465 (yeah, sure, with a plug wire removed maybe). This engine was to be installed in 1971 Vettes, Chevelles and Camaros, but the Clean Air Act passed in 1970 killed that idea.
