Careful About The Amount of Heat.
P_: I own a 1970 Chevelle with a 350ci and would like to know the easiest way to lower the front end around 2-3 inches. I heard of heating the springs but doesn't it make the metal too weak? Would I have to replace the springs?BT: The proper way is to use a set of dropped spindles with the same springs. They can usually be purchased with a 2" or 3" drop. If your front end is unusually high (like having big block springs) you could cut a coil off of one end of the spring, but you will have to keep the spring mostly under water so that you don't heat it up too much. If you heat the coil springs with a torch to drop it, the spring will lose its tension and you will bottom out the car over every bump.
