Use The Gasket

    KS: Is it better to use a gasket between the exhaust manifold and the block, or is it better to just go metal to metal and bolt the manifold straight to the block? This is on a 1970 SS 396.

    JD: Use gaskets or you'll have exhaust leaks.

    BT: You definitely need a gasket. Use a quality brand gasket like Fel-Pro or Mr.Gasket Ultra Seal.
