Look at the Rocker Arms First
D.W. :   I have a 1968 327 that keeps bending # 7 intake and exhaust push rods. It did this twice on the same cylinder. The engine was rebuilt about 1000 miles ago. Could the .510 lift cam have anything to do with it? It was rebuilt with stock type push rods and rockers and stiffer valve springs, using factory rocker studs. Any suggestions?
B.T. :   It sounds as if the stock rocker arms may be the culprit if you did not elongate the slot where the stud goes through. Typically you can not run more than .480" lift with stock rockers, or the slot will hit the stud. You can purchase long slot rockers or buy a set of roller tip ones. If this is not the problem, then your springs are too stiff for the pushrods you are using, or the valves in the #7 cylinder are too tight and binding.
