Balance and Blue print ?
M.D. -   I hear the statement "balanced and blue printed" a lot but I'm not sure technically what it means. Could someone give me a brief explanation? Thanks, Mike
N.N. -   Mike, I'm by no means an expert. In fact I'm not sure this is correct, but pretty sure.Blueprinted means basically back to factory specs. or blueprints.Balanced means what it says, the crank gets balanced then the pistons, rods etc.. all made to weigh the same so that at high RPM, there is less vibration which can be very harmful.Ever wonder what a harmonic balancer does? It accommodates for internal engine imbalances. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me! Hope this helps!
G.M. -   Balanced: Crankshaft and attached parts are balanced at high rpms. It involves getting all the pistons and rods to weigh the same, removing material in specific places to match the weigh of the lightest piece. I believe the crank is then balanced with the rods and pistons attached. Blueprinting: Ensuring that all piece meet the manufacturers specifications for flatness (decking), clearances, and torqueing. Basically , paying close attention to detail.
J.H. -   The above statements for balancing are correct. The term for blueprinted gets tossed around with great abundance. It involves paying close attention to detail to not only manufactures specs. but the specs. for the eng. type you are building and the purpose for the intended use.At the same time every tolerance is checked and written down and documented and I mean every thing aka." blue print" .If you are buying a engine that has been blue printed truly blue printed the seller will have all this documentation. To blue print an engine takes a long time if you want to know more there is book available on the subject called "engine blue printing" I don't know who puts it out or the author put you can buy it from summet racing and some other places it's a very good book to check out you will lean a lot from it JOE:)
